Police raid Boni Khalwale’s Ikolomani home

Police have raided the home of former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale in search for materials they allege would be used to disrupt Thursday election.

The officers led by Mr Bernstein Shari, the Kakamega Central criminal investigations boss went to the politician’s home in Malinya, Ikolomani, armed with a search warrant.

Dr Khalwale was not at home at the time but his wife, Adelaide said she was surprised to see police officers arrive and demand to search the home.

MOTIVE

“We do not know what they want but they told us they have an order to search the homes,” said Mrs Khalwale.

The police boss said there was no sinister motive behind the operation.

"All we are doing is to enforce a court order for a search on the home of Dr Khalwale since we believe he has stored a large consignment of tyres to be used for lighting bonfires and barricade roads,” said Ms Mbaya.

But lawyers Evans Getanda and Innocent Ondiek representing Dr Khalwale said they needed to check with the court officials to confirm if the court order was genuine.

They raised suspicion about the document saying it lacked a court seal and was not dated.

COURT ORDER

After brief consultations, police allowed the lawyers to drive to Kakamega Law court to verify whether the court order was genuine.

Mr Getanda said Dr Khalwale had objection to the search being conducted at his home.

“All he wants is to ensure the purported court order is genuine. We will head back to the home after confirming the order is genuine,” said Mr Getanda.

Dr Khalwale and Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala have been vocal in calling for protests to ensure no voting takes place in the county during the fresh presidential election on October 26..
