Senators Boni Khalwale and Martha Wangari and nominated MP Hassan Osman have won the battle to remain officials of the United Democratic Front.

The Political Parties’ Tribunal on Thursday quashed the party’s decision to expel them.

The tribunal ruled that the party’s National Governing Council meeting, which made the decision on September 16, did not have the mandate to do so.

“The meeting was not properly constituted as provided for under the party’s constitution,” said Mr Kyalo Mbuba, the tribunal’s chairman.

“I therefore declare the decision made by the party’s National Governing Council meeting null and void.”

Dr Khalwale and Ms Wangari were members of the party’s executive committee, while Mr Hassan was its chairman, prior to the council’s decision.

Wrangles in the party that culminated into the expulsion could have been solved through an internal committee, the tribunal observed.

Acting UDF chairman Wycliffe Oyondi, Ms Caroline Muthoni (secretary) and Ms Pauline Achieng (women league leader) had filed a complaint against leader Musalia Mudavadi at the tribunal.
