President Uhuru Kenyatta’s poll agent has defended the electoral commission in the manner it conducted the August 8 election, noting it complied with statutory requirements and delivered a free, fair and credible exercise.
Ms Winnie Guchu, who is the Executive Director of Jubilee Party, and also acted as the Mr Kenyatta’s deputy Chief Presidential Agent at the National Tallying Centre, in a replying affidavit filed at the Supreme Court to Nasa’s election petition, alleged that the coalition’s leader Raila Odinga had exaggerate facts and peddled falsehoods to try and subvert the will of the people.

Ms Guchu rejects all the allegations set out in the petition filed by Mr Odinga and the supporting affidavits challenging the re-election of President Kenyatta, especially regarding the alleged misconduct attributed to the commission and its chairman Wafula Chebukati.
“The petitioners dedicate a considerable portion of their petition in attempting to demonstrate how hopelessly incompetent and inefficient the commission is.
"The commission acquitted itself very well under very difficult circumstances and is to be commended and not vilified,” she says in her 43-page affidavit filed in court on Thursday night.
TALLYING
She says the commission oversaw the successful increase of polling stations from approximately 31,000 in 2013 to 40,883, which led to better access to polling stations by voters.
“Counting, tallying and announcement of results in polling stations was therefore more efficient and accurate,” she says.
The commission posted on its website and on a portal scanned copies of each and every Form 34A and 34B received at Bomas of Kenya by its chairman, which upon collation, Ms Guchu says, demonstrates that the election results announced were accurate.
VOTES
She claims that there are no significant numerical discrepancies between Form 34A and Form 34B as alluded to by Nasa’a Dr Nyangusi Oduwo in his supporting affidavit to the petition.
But she says that after reconciling discrepancies in the forms attached to Dr Oduwo’s affidavit, Mr Odinga’s tally improves by 595 votes while that of Mr Kenyatta decreases by 1,199 votes.
