President asks Meru voters to back Jubilee

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto yesterday rallied Meru residents to re-elect them and other Jubilee candidates to continue with their development agenda.

Mr Kenyatta and Mr Ruto received a rousing welcome in Igoji, Kanyakine, Nkubu, Kariene, Timau, Kiirua and Meru towns where they urged the Meru people to reject any attempt by the opposition to gain ground in the region.

They were received by Meru politicians at Igoji Teachers Training College before addressing roadside rallies and launched construction of Katheri-Giaki and Kisima-Ruiri roads covering about 60 kilometres.

JOBLESSNESS
Mr Kenyatta said besides offering free basic education, his government would fund internships for all youths graduating from universities and technical training institutes in private and public institutions.

“We will pay for all students to get experience after completing university and college. This is the only way to help them gain the experience sought by employers.

"This will end joblessness and enable the young people venture into business,” he said.

COALITION GOVT
The President hit out at Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga accusing him of sabotaging the coalition government he formed with former President Mwai Kibaki.

“When my brother Raila Odinga got an opportunity to be in the coalition government with Kiraitu Murungi he caused problems delaying development.

"He says they initiated the Standard Gauge Railway but he is the one who scuttled its implementation. We are pledging to continue with the work that Mr Kibaki’s government started if re-elected,” Mr Kenyatta said.

STAY UNITED

He said his government was implementing development across the country.

“Our message everywhere we go is for Kenyans to remain united. Every Kenyan has a right to live anywhere in the country.

"Nasa is interested in dividing Kenyans and are after 10 million voters but our focus is on 45 million Kenyans.

“This is why we are rolling out development everywhere. We waived coffee debts for all farmers in the country and installed electricity,” he said.

The President added, “We have waived debts at KCC to benefit dairy farmers across the country. In Meru we are paving roads and supporting coffee and dairy farmers by waiving coffee and dairy cooperatives’ debts.”
