Probe police brutality, speaker directs House committee

The speaker of the Senate Ekwee Ethuro has directed the House security committee to investigate police brutality against protesters demanding ejection of IEBC commissioners from office.

This follows a petition filed by Mr David O. Gesicho.

Mr Ethuro directed that the committee tables its report in 60 days.

Protests called by the Opposition pushing to have Independent Electoral and boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners kicked-out of office have in the past turned violent with police clashing with the demonstrators.

At least four people have been reported to have been shot and later died of gunshot wounds.

Several others are nursing injuries in hospitals after sustaining gunshot wounds.

On Monday, a four year old boy was shot in the back, in Kisumu as police engaged protesters in running battles.

A protester, identified as Mwala, a handcart pusher at the Kisumu bus park, was the latest victim after he was shot in the chest during the Monday demos.

The angry residents used his body to block a street before it was taken to the mortuary.
