Taita Taveta professionals to vet county aspirants

Taita Taveta professionals want to be involved in vetting of county aspirants seeking to run for political seats in the coming General Election.

Speaking in Voi, the group’s officials said they will vet people vying for gubernatorial, senatorial, woman and ward representatives.

“We believe as professionals we have a role to play in this election. We don’t want our people to elect leaders who do not qualify to lead this county” said Taita Taveta University lecturer, Dr Mjomba Majalia.

Dr Majalia expressed concern over current leadership who according to him has failed to deliver development to residents who are living in abject poverty.

He said the professionals has lined up a series of vetting forums where the aspirants will share their manifesto to residents.

“We are planning for debates which will be organised by our group. During the debates, the aspirants will be asked several questions and at the end we will tell residents who to cast their votes for,” he said.

He said there has been no significant development in the county for many years.

“It seems the leaders were after their own selfish interest because nothing has changed for us since independence,” he added.

Another official, Mr Dalton Mwaghogho said the debates will kick off soon.

"We want to make sure that we start early to get time to vet all aspirants," he said.

The group comprises of various professionals across the county.
