‘Polls’ team visits South Africa, India

  • The Public Accounts Committee members will meet owners of South African company Face Technologies that was awarded the tender to supply the Electronic Voter Identification Devices.
  • The committee will be seeking confirmation on allegation that some top officials may have been involved in questionable procurement conduct.

A team of MPs will visit South Africa next week and later, India to continue with investigations into the procurement of equipment used in the last General Election.

The Public Accounts Committee members will meet owners of South African company Face Technologies that was awarded the tender to supply the Electronic Voter Identification Devices. They will later meet India’s 4G Identity Solutions which tried to bid for the Biometric Voter Registration kits, the committee has said.

The equipment which was supplied shortly before the Election Day failed to function as expected and have largely been blamed for the controversial election results announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

The committee will be seeking confirmation on allegation that some top officials may have been involved in questionable procurement conduct.
