Queries raised on Kiambu MCA's escape

The escape and rescue of a Kiambu politician who had been missing for eight days was expected to end the saga surrounding his disappearance but it appears to have raised more questions than answers.
Police are waiting for Mr Samuel Gitau, the Juja ward representative, to leave the Aga Khan University Hospital, where he is being treated, so they can interrogate him, hoping to unravel the mystery.
“The whole thing has left very many questions unanswered, but we are waiting for him to get out of the hospital so that he can tell us what happened,” said Kiambu County Commander James Mugera on Tuesday.
He claimed that the ward representative’s story sounded like a movie but it would be thoroughly investigated.
When he was found, witnesses said Mr Gitau could not say much about his ordeal and was incoherent.
County Criminal Investigating Officer Titus Ngui chose to reserve his comments for “some reasons”.
NOT ADDING UP
The ward rep was found on Sunday night at Kinungi, Naivasha, about one week after he disappeared from Juja.
However, some of his colleagues who spoke to the Nation, but who requested not to be named due to the sensitivity of the matter, said the story given by Mr Gitau was not adding up.
They claimed that his disappearance could have been a staged kidnap and want the matter thoroughly investigated.
Further, they raised questions as to why Naivasha police were not informed after he escaped from the boot of a car believed to belong to his abductors.
The other ward reps said they would want investigations on how Mr Gitau jumped out of a moving car on a tarmac road and the narrative that the alleged abductors stopped before driving on.
“The kidnappers would have accelerated the moment he (Gitau) started hitting the boot to open it. Again it is questionable why police in the area were not involved yet it is a criminal case,” said one of the reps.
Another said the claim that Mr Gitau had been locked up the entire time without food was unbelievable.
However, police have said the bypassing of their colleagues in Naivasha was not an issue and that it did not matter.
