Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka on Saturday combed Machakos County in search for votes as the campaigns entered the homestretch.

Mr Odinga and Machakos gubernatorial candidate Wavinya Ndeti held whistle-stop rallies in Matungulu and Kangundo constituencies before linking up with Mr Musyoka in Mutituni market in Machakos Town constituency.

Mr Musyoka had started the campaign with a separate team where they toured Yatta, Mwala and Kathiani constituencies in the morning.

The joint team of Mr Musyoka and Mr Odinga travelling in three helicopters later flew to Athi-River for the final rally.

Speaking at the rally in Mutituni, Mr Odinga called on the electorate to elect Ms Ndeti, saying he was sure of her capability as she had served as an assistant minister when he was the prime minister.

ALFRED MUTUA

Both Mr Odinga and Mr Musyoka said the incumbent governor, Dr Alfred Mutua, should be voted out as he had shown disrespect to his political mentors.

They called for a total removal of all leaders who were not allied to the Nasa coalition.

“We want to increase the allocation to the counties so that Ms Ndeti can deliver services. She is capable and I know it as I used to assign her duties when I was the prime minister,” said Mr Odinga as he called on the people to vote out Dr Mutua.

Mr Odinga promised to ensure the cost of living goes down within the first 100 days in office.

He said the price of basic commodities such as unga, sugar, milk, and bread was beyond the reach of the common mwananchi while earnings remained low.

Mr Odinga also said joblessness had spiralled out of control with many educated youths out in the cold.

FREE EDUCATION

He reiterated his pledge to implement free secondary education.

“When we take over power next month our children from nursery school to Form Four will study free of charge,” said Mr Odinga.

He said his government will put in place a special fund to cater for single mothers who are faced with difficulties after losing or separating from their spouses.

He said the Nasa coalition was sure of victory and would ensure the election is not rigged.

Mr Musyoka, on his part, pleaded with the electorate to ensure he had a stake in the government by voting in governors, members of parliament and MCAs vying on the Wiper Party ticket.

“Governor Mutua was elected because of me but he disrespected me; please ensure he is voted out,” said Mr Musyoka.

Ms Ndeti urged the people to vote out Jubilee Party candidates.
