More than five allies of Cord leader Raila Odinga are scrambling for the Homa Bay chairmanship in an election to be held at the weekend.

Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga, Deputy Governor Hamilton Orata and MPs Joseph Oyugi Magwanga (Kasipul) and Peter Opondo Kaluma (Homa Bay Town) have thrown their hats in the ring for the March 7 contest.

The Karachuonyo sub-branch chairman, Mr Tom Dola, is also said to have set his eyes on the chairmanship.

KAJWANG'S DEATH

The chairman’s seat fell vacant following the death of Otieno Kajwang’ and his deputy Monica Amollo, who had taken over in an acting capacity.

The situation in the branch leadership was further complicated during the recent by-election after the branch secretary, Mr James Rege, who is also the MP for Karachuonyo, campaigned for Maendeleo Democratic Party candidate Philip Okundi.

Mr Rege was in the camp of former Rangwe MP Martin Otieno Ogindo and Kasipul politician Charles Ongondo Were who had, during the recent campaigns, introduced themselves as branch chairman and vice chairman respectively.
