Cord leader Raila Odinga will on Sunday head back to the western region for a one-week tour in a second quest for support from the Luhya community.

The opposition chief's planned visit comes barely a month after his tour of the vote-rich region that saw him camp in Vihiga, Busia and Kakamega counties.

Mr Odinga will criss-cross Kakamega County beginning Sunday all through to Friday.

According to a statement from ODM Director of Communications Dennis Onyango, Mr Odinga will meet grassroots and community leaders in the nine constituencies in Kakamega before holding public rallies.

“Raila will visit nine constituencies of Khwisero, Butere, Shinyalu, Ikolomani, Lurambi, Navakholo, Malava, Lugari and Likuyani,” Mr Onyango said in a statement to newsrooms on Thursday.

MEET LEADERS

He said Mr Odinga will also meet leaders of various professional organisations.

“Some of the venues Mr Odinga will make stops at during the tour are Manyulia, Butere Town, Sabatia, Shinyalu, Khayega, Musoli, Shisohe, Lubao, Malava, Pan Paper, Kongoni and Matunda,” read the statement.

In July, Mr Odinga led a high-powered ODM campaign team in a week-long tour of Vihiga, Busia and Kakamega counties.

His return to the region comes as the ruling Jubilee seeks to wrest control of the region from the Opposition, and in the wake of Budalang’i MP Ababu Namwamba’s resignation as ODM secretary-general.

Jubilee, under President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto, is banking on Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka, Mumias East MP Ben Washiali and Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa to endear it to the region.
