Raila Odinga's promise to fishers on Migingo Island

Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga on Sunday ended his two-day campaign of western Kenya with criticism of the Jubilee government over failure to address the plight of fishermen in Lake Victoria.

Addressing residents in Port Victoria in Busia County, Mr Odinga accused the Jubilee administration of failing to reclaim the controversial Migingo Island, which he said is in Kenyan territory.

“The government has neglected our poor fishermen in Lake Victoria. For years, they have been arrested and harassed yet nothing is being done to stop this.

"We as Nasa will ensure we reclaim Migingo and support our fisherfolk,” Mr Odinga said.

FAKE GOODIES
The National Super Alliance flag-bearer asked Busia residents to reject the ruling coalition for not fulfilling the promises it made prior to the 2013 General Election.

“Jubilee promised to carpet the Busia-Malaba road but until now nothing is going on.

"They slept on the job, only to wake up at 11th hour with fake goodies. I will complete constructing the roads I started during my tenure in the Grand Coalition government,” he said.

He was accompanied by another Nasa principal, Mr Moses Wetang’ula; governors Sospeter Ojaamong (Busia) and Cornel Rasanga (Siaya); senators James Orengo (Siaya) and Amos Wako (Busia); ODM chairman John Mbadi; and Budalang’i parliamentary hopeful Raphael Wanjala; among other candidates contesting for various seats.

PATHETIC SCORE CARD
The Nasa brigade promised Busia residents that if voted in, they would make sure they lower the high cost of living within the first 100 days.

Mr Odinga said his government would offer free education from the early childhood development stage to the secondary school level, and ensure schools are fully equipped.

Mr Wetang’ula said: “The Jubilee government score card is pathetic. They said they would construct key roads in the region but failed.

"They said they would ignite ailing factories such as Pan Paper but sold it. Mumias has been neglected. Nzoia is also on its deathbed.”

ABABU IN JUBILEE
He promised that corruption would be a thing of the past if Nasa wins the polls.

Mr Odinga addressed rallies not only in Port Victoria but also Mau Mau.

Both are in Budalang’i Constituency, whose MP is former ODM secretary-general Ababu Namwamba, whom Mr Odinga accused of colluding with the Jubilee government to propagate impunity.

The Nasa team sought to water down any inroads made by Jubilee in the region.

UHURU IN VIHIGA

Mr Odinga’s visit to the region came barely a fortnight after President Uhuru Kenyatta toured it.

The President was also in Vihiga, Nasa principal Musalia Mudavadi’s home turf, to preside over the opening of Jumuia Kaimosi Hospital Kaimosi.

Mr Mudavadi and another Nasa principal, Mr Kalonzo Musyoka, toured Teso North and Teso South constituencies in the search for votes.

After touring Budalang’i, Mr Odinga and his team addressed rallies in Funyula, the home town of Busia governor candidate Paul Otuoma.

KENYANS IN PAIN

Mr Otuoma resigned as ODM vice-chairman and from the party to contest for the seat as an independent candidate after a questionable primary outcome.

Mr Odinga and Mr Wetang’ula later joined the other two opposition leaders. They met in Busia town for a major rally.

Mr Musyoka said Nasa would not let the country suffer, adding that Jubilee had thrust Kenyans into a peaceful revolution fuelled by the high cost of living.
