Cord leader Raila Odinga on Saturday ordered Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma investigated following allegations of corruption.

Mr Odinga directed ODM Executive Director Oduor Ong’wen to set up a committee to look into the accusations by MCAs and residents.

This follows the tabling of a petition by Kisumu Senator Anyang’ Nyong’o last month seeking to institute an inquiry on the governor.

The 32-page petition, prepared by three members of the Kisumu Assembly, accused Mr Ranguma of nepotism, corruption, influencing procurement and mismanagement.

Speaking during a reconciliatory meeting between leaders of the county yesterday, Mr Odinga also read  the riot act to MCAs who he accused of sleeping on the job.

Mr Odinga said the assembly had failed to oversee the governor and instead sought favours from him.

“It is not proper to have an assembly that befriends the executive,” he said.

The meeting was attended by Mr Ranguma, his deputy Ruth Odinga, Speaker Ann Adul, MCAs and the executive.

Mr Odinga also accused Mr Ranguma of not following due process when he fired five members of the executive in January.

“You cannot just wake up one day and fire people. How were they hired in the first place? The assembly was also responsible in vetting them,” he said.

Mr Ranguma is embroiled in a supremacy war with his deputy, Ms Odinga.
