Raila wants Waiguru out over scandal

Cord leader Raila Odinga insists Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru must step aside to pave way for investigations into the Sh826 million National Youth Service scandal.

Mr Odinga who spoke on Citizen TV yesterday said Ms Waiguru should be suspended just like other ministers under investigations over alleged corruption.

While responding to Ms Waiguru’s assertion she would not resign, Mr Odinga accused the President of abetting theft and misuse of public funds.

Speaking on the same TV station on Tuesday night, Ms Waiguru said: “People do not resign because they have been told to step aside on the street.”

She said she is the one who blew the whistle on the attempted Sh826 million theft and even called in detectives.

“The ministry is under investigations. Waiguru should step aside to facilitate investigations,” Mr Odinga said.

Mr Odinga also took issue with Ms Waiguru’s assertion that the amount under investigation had gone down from Sh826 million to Sh695.4 million.

“How does it become legitimate while the password was stolen?” Mr Odinga said.
