The much anticipated rally where Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa was expected to announce whether he will be vying for the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat has been put off.

Mr Wamalwa had to postpone the event, slated for Sunday, as his family is bereaved.

“The Cabinet secretary’s aunt will be laid to rest on Saturday. It will not be possible for him to wake up to the event on Sunday since the death has affected him emotionally,” said Dan Wafula, Mr Wamalwa’s aide.

Mr Wamalwa’s aunt Regina Wanyama was killed by suspected thugs last week in Muungano.

Mr Wafula on Friday said a new date for the event will be set after the burial as the minister is keen on making a comeback to the region’s politics.

“Be rest assured that his political interest is in Trans Nzoia. Ignore rumours alleging that President Uhuru Kenyatta has advised him against contesting for the governorship of Trans Nzoia,” said the PA.

Mr Wamalwa had in December last year told his supporters that he will announce his bid on February 5 at the Kitale ASK grounds.
