Rebel MPs dropped from House teams

The Orange Democratic Movement party on Tuesday disciplined some of its rebel MPs who recently defected to Jubilee by removing them from parliamentary committees.

The MPs who were discharged are Mr James Rege (Karachuonyo), Mr Kubai Iringo (Igembe Central), Mr Isaac Mwaura (Nominated), Mr John Waluke (Sirisia), Mr Mpuru Aburi (Tigania East) and Mr Stephen Kariuki (Mathare).

Another member who was disciplined is Mr Ababu Namwamba (Budalang’i).

However, such MPs may benefit from a proposed amendment of the parliamentary Standing Orders proposed by Ainabkoi MP Samuel Chepkonga, which is aimed at protecting MPs from being dewhipped from committees should they ditch their parties and join rival ones.

Mr Chepkonga, who is also the chairman of the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee, on Tuesday rose on a point of order and informed the House of the proposal made by his team in the past but was not implemented.

Cord parties ODM and Wiper have in the past disciplined their rebel members through removal from committees.
