UDM tells aspirants eyeing party ticket to register before deadline

What you need to know:

  • An aspirant for the governor’s seat is required to pay a non-refundable fee of Sh100,000; a senator will part with Sh50,000; member of the National Assembly Sh30,000; the same amount for woman representative; and members of the county assembly (MCAs) Sh20,000. The money is payable to the party’s bank account or through M-Pesa.
  • Youths, people with disabilities and aspirants from marginalised groups, however, will only be required to pay half of registration fee for their respective positions of interest.

The United Democratic Movement (UDM) has urged aspirants seeking elective positions on the party’s ticket in the August polls to register before February 16.

“In accordance with the Constitution, UDM Party, hereby invites all interested parties from all Forty-Seven (47) Counties in Kenya interested in vying for the elected positions listed below to apply to the Party,” said party Secretary-General George Ouma in a notice published in local dailies on Wednesday.

The party nominated former director of public prosecutions Philip Murgor as its presidential candidate late last year.

The aspirants are further required to collect application forms from the party’s headquarters at UDM House, located at 4th Ngong Avenue, or download forms from the party’s website, fill them out and send them out before the deadline in February.

In a similar move, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua’s party, Maendeleo Chap Chap, through a notice published in local dailies, invited aspirants from across the country willing to use the party’s ticket in the August general elections to vie for elective positions to apply with the party.

The aspirants will be required to pay nomination fees for their respective positions as follows: MCAs Sh20,000; woman rep Sh100,000; member of Parliament Sh50,000; senator Sh150,000; governor Sh250,000. Youths, people with disability, women and minorities will be given a special reduced rate.

The aspirants are also assured support in terms of campaign materials, modern winning campaign strategies and payment of agents.
