William Ruto urges East African leaders to embrace positive politics

Deputy President William Ruto has asked leaders in the East African region to avoid divisive politics.

He encouraged leaders to address issues that drive development, foster unity and improve lives of the people.

“It is time leaders in the EAC region discourage politics based on race, religion or region,” said Mr Ruto.

He said politics should be used to solve problems people face.

The Deputy President noted that many African countries have lagged behind economically due to bad politics.

He said the Jubilee administration shared the same vision as that of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) as it was focused on development and the uniting people.

The Deputy President at the same time urged East Africa residents to take advantage of the regional integration to exploit existing business opportunities.

He said the integration of East African Community has created opportunities for trade that can transform lives if exploited.

Mr Ruto said Kenya and Uganda will ensure joint development projects in the fields of energy and infrastructure are implemented to reduce the cost of doing business.

“We are going to implement the reforms in the EAC region to create more jobs for the people,” said Mr Ruto.

Mr Ruto was speaking during celebrations to mark 53rd Uganda Independence Day held at Kaunda grounds in Gulu District on Friday. Uganda President Yoweri Museveni attended the event.

President Museveni said the two countries will expand their markets to increase business opportunities.

He said Uganda is ready to work with Kenya to implement projects that will help reduce the cost of doing business in the two countries.

“Kenya has made remarkable progress in the energy sector and we are going to work together in implementing projects aimed at helping the people,” he said.
