  • Addressing the press on Tuesday at Laico Hotel, Nairobi, under the auspices of Ukambani Progressive Forum, the group said the suspended CS seems not sure as to whether she was working for the government or the Opposition.
  • The leaders said it was improper for her to say she is in the government to stay when on the other hand, she antagonises the same government by challenging its fight against corruption.
  • They regretted that Ms Ngilu had joined Mr Musyoka in confusing the region over their political destiny by not being consistent with what she stands for.

Some leaders and politicians from Kamba region want President Uhuru Kenyatta to sack suspended Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu ‘for betraying the government’s efforts to tackle corruption’.

They also lashed at Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka saying the region was dismally performing due to poor leadership that is not development oriented.

Addressing the press on Tuesday at Laico Hotel, Nairobi, under the auspices of Ukambani Progressive Forum, the group said the suspended CS seems not sure as to whether she was working for the government or the Opposition.

“There is a leadership vacuum in Ukambani. The leaders we are relying on are not sure of where they are taking the community,” the group Secretary General Ben Mukima who read the statement said.

The leaders said it was improper for her to say she is in the government to stay when on the other hand, she antagonises the same government by challenging its fight against corruption.

Mr Mukima faulted Ms Ngilu for making casual statements in support of Mr Musyoka when a section of Jubilee MPs accused him of irregularly acquiring part of National Youth Service (NYS) land in Yatta, Machakos County.

“President Uhuru should not act like he is desperate. There are many Kambas who can work in the government. She seems in doubt of where she belongs going by her latest public utterances,” said Mr Samuel Kiminza, a former Kitui South MP.

The group said they supported the president’s fight against corruption and those rallying their communities to defend those implicated in corrupt deals were missing the point.

“The ongoing corruption investigations should not be politicised. Communities do not engage in corruption but, individuals do,” Mr Mukima said.

They regretted that Ms Ngilu had joined Mr Musyoka in confusing the region over their political destiny by not being consistent with what she stands for.

“We strongly condemn the political flip-flopping of the CS. This political duplicity is hurting the perception of how the rest of the country views Kambas,” Ms Susan Mwikali who represents Kitui County said.

They further said the government should ignore those calling for the relocation of the NYS from Machakos County, saying they were not speaking for the majority of the area residents.

National Assembly minority leader Francis Nyenze while defending Mr Musyoka said the government should consider distributing the NYS land to poor Kamba farmers if it was turning out to be a source of conflict.

TNA chairman and nominated MP Mr Johnson Sakaja and Dagoreti South MP Dennis Waweru have maintained that Mr Musyoka should be investigated over the alleged land scandal.
