The Senate has been asked to come up with laws that would deter leaders from unilaterally moving county headquarters and other resources to places of their choice.

The Transition Authority’s (TA) Chief Executive Officer Stephen Makori said this would avert future conflicts.

Guidelines on recruitment of staff, he added, have also been flouted, a situation that has seen some county governments spend more on salaries as opposed to development.

MOVED TO THIKA

“The TA is requesting the Senate’s intervention on these matters, including transforming the advisories we have given into law, for all to follow,” said Mr Makori in a letter to the Senate, dated July 1, this year.

The letter was in response to concerns by Kiambu County residents over growing uncertainty about the designated headquarters of Kiambu County after Governor William Kabogo moved it to Thika Town from Kiambu.

Senator Kimani Wamatangi took the matter before the Senate, saying the row over change of the headquarters to Thika was affecting service delivery.
