Senatorial contestants in Kisii to submit papers

The papers of at least five aspirants in Nyanza region were rejected by the electoral commission yesterday, most of them senate aspirants in Kisumu and Kisii counties.
In Kisii, only one of the four senatorial aspirants, Dr Benayo Nyamwega of the Empowerment and Liberation Party, had his papers accepted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
PARTY MEMBERSHIP
The papers of Mr Isaac Onchagwa (independent), Mishael Okemwa (Ford-Kenya), Mr Richard Atemba (KNC) and Mr George Nyamweya (ANC) were deferred to today.
“They still have a window today to present their credentials,” Dr Sidney Namlungu, the Kisii County IEBC returning officer, said.
In Kisumu, Jubilee Party’s senate aspirant Winston Ochor Ayoki was turned away for being a registered Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) member.
CLEARED CANDIDATES
He had been given direct ticket. Kisumu County Returning Officer John Lorionokou directed him to clear with the Registrar of Political Parties by tomorrow.
Others cleared were Nyando MP Fred Outa (ODM) and Ms Millicent Abudha (Ford-Kenya) for the Kisumu senate race and Vihiga Senator George Khaniri, who will defend his seat.
Presenting their papers today for the Kisii senate seat will be Prof Sam Ongeri (ODM), Mr Charles Nyachae (Jubilee), Omingo Magara (PDP), Kennedy Momanyi (Labour) and Vincent Gekone (PEP).
Governorship candidates will present their papers on Sunday.
