Speaker saves deputy from impeachment

Vihiga Speaker came to the rescue of his deputy when MCAs attempted to impeach him on Friday.

Mr Dan Chitwa stopped debate on the motion that would see his deputy Richard Muhiga vacate office.

“I decline to allow debate on the motion and declare all committees dissolved. I also dissolve the speaker’s panel and will reconstitute another soon,” he said.
MAJORITY HAVE THEIR WAY

He, however, allowed a clause in the petition to do away with the Majority Leader and his deputy. He said petitioners had properly requested his office to call for a sitting to kick out eight leaders.

“It is signed by 29 members. Democracy demands that majority have their way,” he said.

Those shown the door are Majority Leader Andrew Ahuga, his deputy Jackson Musoga, Majority Whip Abdalla Chogo and his deputy Vincent Atsiaya.
Others are Minority Leader Jenipher Ekhuya, her deputy Zakayo Manyasa and Minority Whip Tom Atingo.

Ford-Kenya’s only MCA Wilberforce was also made to give up his position as the assembly’s Minority Whip.
