  • Committee recommends that Joy Gwendo be suspended indefinitely “for working with the party’s rivals”.
  • This comes after branch officials said she had disrespected the party.

Cracks have emerged in The National Alliance's Kisumu branch following recommendations to the party’s national oversight board to suspend nominated Senator Joy Gwendo.

TNA’s national disciplinary committee recommended on Friday that Ms Gwendo be suspended indefinitely “for working with the party’s rivals”.

This came after branch officials said she had disrespected the party.

On Sunday, a group claiming to be bona fide branch decision makers came out in defence of Ms Gwendo. They said the recommendation was reached without consultations.

They accused TNA Secretary-General Onyango Oloo of micromanaging the branch.

Mr Yusuf Odongo said Mr Oloo was not running the party affairs professionally.

“We are the ones who toiled for TNA during the last election and we will not take the attempts to expel the senator lightly,” Mr Odongo said.

The group wants the decision reversed or “TNA will face protests in the wider Nyanza region”.

Mr Oloo denied he had anything to do with the recommendation to suspend the senator, saying disciplinary matters are sorted out by the branch chairman.
