A top TNA organ is set to review a disciplinary committee ruling that called for the expulsion of nominated Senator Joy Gwendo from her position.

The party’s secretary-general, Mr Onyango Oloo, yesterday said he would summon the oversight board, which is chaired by nominated MP Johnson Sakaja, next week, to look at Ms Gwendo’s case and consider other rulings, before a final decision is made.

“I have today received and studied the ruling by the committee and decided that the oversight board be summoned to further look into this matter,” Mr Oloo said.

He said the case against Ms Gwendo did not warrant the action taken against her, but added that the board would make a final decision.

“There was really nothing to warrant an expulsion,” he said. “That idea, indeed, portrayed an undying hangover from Kanu and an indication (that) some people are not ready to embrace change and modernity in our political engagements.”

Ms Gwendo had been accused of disrespect to the party and supporting its rival, ODM.

She appealed against the committee’s ruling, which threatens to bring down her political career.

The secretariat was also studying the ruling made in the cases against Nyeri County Woman Representative Priscilla Nyokabi and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, Mr Oloo told the Nation.

Mr Kuria was accused of incitement and propagating ethnic hatred, while Ms Nyokabi faced the team on allegations that she helped the case against President Kenyatta in the Hague. The committee cleared both of the accusations.
