Six aspirants will take part in Monday’s TNA nominations to pick a candidate for the Gatundu South Constituency by-election.

Analysts and residents are keenly following the nominations in what is expected to be a bruising battle especially after the entry of the immediate former MP’s widow.

Mrs Joyce Wanjiku Ngugi declared her candidature about three weeks after the burial of her husband Joseph Ngugi who died of a heart attack on May 21.

She will be facing off with, among others, TNA strategist Moses Kuria and Nairobi advocate Joachim Kiarie Kamere of Narc party who lost to Mr Ngugi in last year’s election.

Analysts say Mr Kamere is a force to reckon with given his ability to garner 14,189 votes riding against the TNA wave that saw Ngugi get 33,587 last year.

Also in the race is insurance manager Thuku Maracha, former civic leader John Karing’u and Catherine Ndung’u, a member of the Central Committee of PCEA Women’s Guild who contested the Women’s Representatives seat.
