Talks on over exit of IEBC bosses

Talks on the exit of electoral commissioners have started, with the National Treasury and the Salaries and Remuneration Commission working on their send-off package.

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Issack Hassan told the Senate Public Accounts Committee that they are also discussing how they will vacate office.

He, however, said the commissioners would not leave office until October 4, when a recently passed law comes into effect.

Attorney-General Githu Muigai had said that negotiations for the commissioners’ exit from office would start this week.

He said the State Law office and the Treasury held talks last week on how to engage on the matter and that technical teams from various State agencies would meet this week to start the negotiations.

Mr Hassan also said the IEBC is ready to conduct party nominations but wants regulations to indicate who will fund the process.
