Team sets date for burial of Christabel Ouko

  • Mrs Ouko died on Monday in a road accident near the Muhoroni junction on the Kisumu-Kericho highway.

Ms Christabel Ouko, the widow of slain former Foreign Affairs Minister Robert Ouko, will be buried on September 2.

Muhoroni MP Onyango K'Oyoo, a member of the local funeral organising committee, said the date was tentative.

ROAD CRASH

On Friday, he said a fundraiser will be held on Wednesday next week in Nairobi followed by a requiem mass on Thursday at Citam Church on Valley Road, Nairobi.

“The body will be moved to Kisumu on Friday for burial on Saturday at her Koru home, Muhoroni of Kisumu County,” Mr K'Oyoo said.

Mrs Ouko died on Monday in a road accident near the Muhoroni junction on the Kisumu-Kericho highway at the age of 76.

CEREMONY

She was returning home after attending the inauguration ceremony of Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o when the vehicle that was being driven by her son veered off the road and rolled.

On Friday, Prof Nyong’o and county government staff visited the family.

PRAYERS

Prof Nyong’o, who was accompanied by his wife Dorothy, deputy governor Mathews Owili and a section of county government staff, also held prayers at Dr Ouko’s grave at his home in Koru.

“I and my family feel a lot of pain due to the untimely demise of Christabel on her way back from my inauguration ceremony at the Jomo Kenyatta Sports Grounds on Monday,” the governor said.

Dr Owili said Mrs Ouko was well known for her community work around Muhoroni.
