What you need to know:

  • Mr Mosonik will have Health secretary James Macharia, who has been appointed to oversee the docket in acting capacity, to refer to.

Operations at the transport ministry will be most affected after the cabinet secretary and the one of the two principal secretaries complied with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive for officials under corruption investigation to step aside.

A statement by President Uhuru Kenyatta through his spokesman Manoah Esipisu on Saturday disclosed that Transport Secretary Michael Kamau and the Transport PS Nduva Muli have both stepped aside.

The decision by President Kenyatta to allow Mr Kamau and Mr Muli to both vacate office pending the conclusion of the investigation leaves only one PS in charge of infrastructure John Mosonik.

Mr Mosonik will have Health secretary James Macharia, who has been appointed to oversee the docket in acting capacity, to refer to.

The same ministry has also had Ms Lucy Mbugua, Kenya Airports Authority managing director step aside less than a week since she came back from a forced leave.

An almost similar situation prevails at the Labour ministry where the cabinet secretary Kazungu Kambi has left.  Along with Mr Kambi, the managing trustee of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Richard Langat too has been sent home.
