William Ruto's URP cracks whip on ‘rebels’

Deputy President William Ruto’s United Republican Party on Tuesday summoned eight Bomet County MCAs believed to be siding with Cord in its referendum push.

The MCAs were quizzed for five hours at the Nairobi party headquarters before they were given an ultimatum to drop their referendum push or lose their seats.

The representatives were summoned through letters last week and were warned against ignoring them.

DISCIPLINARY ACTION

“The party is considering taking disciplinary action against you for the above allegation under Article 30 of the Constitution and is, by these summons, giving you an opportunity to give your explanations and clarifications prior to disciplinary action,” read the letters.

The eight members facing disciplinary measures are Ms Aurelia Chepkirui, Mr Patrick Chepkowny, Ms Bency Too, Ms Beatrice Chebomwei, Ms Hellen Rotich, Ms Rose Boiyon, Ms Josephine Rotich and Ms Nancy Chepkirui.

Party secretary-general Fred Muteti on Tuesday denied the MCAs had been threatened, saying, they had only been informed of the party’s position on the matter.
