Uhuru: State will provide adequate security during poll

President Uhuru Kenyatta has assured voters of their security on Thursday during the repeat presidential election.
He asked supporters of the National Super Alliance (Nasa), who will not participate in the election to respect the wishes of those who will be voting by not interfering with the exercise.
“Their right to boycott elections will be respected; similarly they should respect the rights of those who want to take part in the elections,” said the President.
Mr Kenyatta, who was accompanied by Deputy President William Ruto on the campaign trail in Kitengela on Saturday, said the economy is the political impasse is hurting the economy.
“Right now there are investors who cannot put their money into our economy just because they are unsure of what will happen. Till when shall we continue waiting?” he asked.
He accused Nasa leader Raila Odinga of holding the country at ransom with his demands.

“Kenya is not about satisfying the ego,” said Mr Kenyatta. “You should not make people lose their lives and property just because of your dreams. Kenya is not about an individual; it is about 45 million of us who must move forward. One man cannot keep us in perpetual election mode.”
He continued: “If Raila, who went to court and got his prayers for a repeat election will not participate in the election, we are sorry, we must go into elections. We cannot continue holding Kenyans in suspense,.”
At the same time, he said that plans to put up a Sh10 billion plant for processing hide and skins in Kitengela has been put on hold as a result of the political uncertainty.
On his party, the Deputy President claimed that Mr Odinga is behind violence witnessed in the streets and against IEBC official.
“Anybody organising street riots where property is destroyed and lives are lost should know that there is no room for such in independent Kenya. Those are the tools of trade of terrorists, dictators, despots and tyrants,” said Mr Ruto.
VIOLENCE
“Raila Odinga must stop his supporters and family members from meting out violence against election officials in Nyanza because Nyanza is Kenya,” he added.
The Deputy President said that Jubilee government has initiated a number of development projects in Kajiado County, including tarmacking the road from Kiserian in Kajiado North to Mashuru in Kajiado East.
“We have also connected over 200,000 households to electricity, up from 90,000,” he added.
Also present during the event was Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and a host of leaders from Kajiado led by Governor Joseph ole Lenku, his deputy Martin Moshisho and Senator Philip Mpaayei. Others were former Kajiado Governor David Nkedianye, Woman Rep Janet Teiyaa and Nominated Senator Mary Seneta among others.
