President Uhuru Kenyatta pays tribute to Otieno Kajwang’

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday joined Kenyans in mourning Homa Bay Senator Otieno Kajwang’ who died at The Mater Hospital in Nairobi at 11pm on Tuesday.

In a message of condolence to the family and friends, the Head of State said that he learnt of the senator’s death with utter shock and deep sorrow.

“Senator Kajwang’s death is not only a big blow to his family but also to the people of Homa Bay County and the whole country, which he served with commitment and dedication as an MP, a minister and a senator,” President Kenyatta said.

He said that he would always remember Mr Kajwang’ as an eloquent debater, a patriot and a nationalist.

“Indeed, it is hard to comprehend how the cruel hand of death has so suddenly snatched Senator Kajwang’ from our midst. He was an energetic, jovial and an extremely pleasant person to deal with,” Mr Kenyatta said.

He said that the death of Mr Kajwang’ reminds Kenyans of how fickle human life can be. Mr Kenyatta said it was difficult to find the right words at such a sad time.

“In this difficult time of mourning, I convey my deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to Senator Kajwang’s family and the people of Homa Bay whom he served diligently. I pray that the Almighty God gives you all the strength and courage to bear the tragic loss,” the President said.

Deputy President William Ruto said Senator Kajwang’ was a brilliant lawyer and a man of principle.
