  • Maj-Gen (rtd) Joseph Nkaissery, whose appointment as Interior Cabinet secretary was approved by the National Assembly, will also be sworn in.
  • During his vetting, Gen Nkaissery said he supported the deletion of clauses in the security Bill that infringe on human rights.

President Kenyatta is expected to address the nation on the controversial Security Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2014.

The Head of State is also set to swear in Maj-Gen (rtd) Joseph Nkaissery after the National Assembly endorsed him for the position of Interior Cabinet secretary on Thursday.

President Kenyatta nominated Gen Nkaissery, the ODM Member of Parliament for Kajiado Central, for the position to replace Mr Joseph ole Lenku.

During his vetting, Gen Nkaissery said he supported the deletion of clauses in the security Bill that infringe on human rights.

The Bill was passed by MPs in a chaotic session on Thursday evening.

President Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto last week rallied Jubilee lawmakers to pass the Bill.

The President hosted the MPs and senators at State House, where he explained why he needed more powers to deal with terrorism.

A senator said the President argued that since the buck stopped with him, he deserved the powers that would allow him to deal decisively with government officials who failed in their duties.
