President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday defended his order to the National Treasury to pay Sh1.4 billion to Anglo Leasing firms.

The President said paying the firms was not right but had to be done to avoid a financial crisis.

He said he had ordered fresh investigations into the Anglo Leasing issue to avoid making such payments in future.

On Thursday evening, President Kenyatta authorised National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich to pay the judgment debts with immediate effect.

The President at the same time said County Commissioners would ensure quick service delivery to Kenyans.

He said it would be hypocritical to say National Government does not need representation at the grass root level.

“I strongly believe there is no reason for people to travel to Nairobi to have issues like ID resolved,” he said during a press briefing at State House, Nairobi.
