Uhuru Kenyatta travels to Dar for Magufuli inauguration

President Uhuru Kenyatta has travelled to Dar es Salaam to attend the inauguration ceremony of Tanzania’s President-elect John Pombe Magufuli.

The President and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta were seen off at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Deputy President William Ruto.

President Kenyatta congratulated Mr Magufuli, saying Kenya was committed to strengthening its relationship with its southern neighbour.

“Kenya presents its compliments to the High Commission of the United Republic of Tanzania,” a letter dated November 2 says.

A statement from the Tanzanian Government said Mr Kenyatta would be joined at the inauguration by other African leaders, including Mr Robert Mugabe (Zimbabwe), Mr Yoweri Museveni (Uganda) and Mr Paul Kagame (Rwanda).

Others who will attend are Mr Jacob Zuma (South Africa), Mr Joseph Kabila (Democratic Republic of Congo), Mr Filipe Nyusi (Mozambique) and Mr Edgar Lungu (Zambia).
