Arm yourselves with voters’ cards and get ready for 2017. That is the message that Jubilee leaders told the region in the homecoming party of Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri.

Led by President Kenyatta, the more than 40 MPs said they are aiming to almost double the number of votes the President got in 2013.

Leader of Majority Aden Duale said they are targeting to register four million new voters in Jubilee strongholds by 2017.

“We will deliver 11 million votes to President Kenyatta in 2017. 2013 was a rehearsal of tyranny of numbers. 2017 will be the main act,” said Mr Duale.

Mr Kenyatta received 6.1 million votes in the 2013 election, but escaped a runoff by a whisker.

“In 2017, votes will pour down like rain. The main aim is not only to avoid a runoff but also win by a margin that leaves no doubt that the country wants Jubilee,” added Mr Duale.

President Kenyatta, on the other hand, ordered the Interior ministry to make available mobile registration offices where youths can take ID cards.

He also asked the registrar’s office to stop asking what he termed irrelevant questions to youths who apply for IDs.

“Register people where they are and stop asking about their heritage. It does not matter where their parents come from as long as they are Kenyans,” said Mr Kenyatta.

Mr Kiunjuri said those in Cord trying to get central Kenya votes are day-dreaming.
“For those in the opposition, trying to get our votes is like trying to get whiskers from a living lion,” said the Devolution CS.

Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu and Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru said Cord is registering many people in their strongholds yet central is being left behind.

More than 10,000 people attended the rally that was also addressed by Cabinet Secretaries Eugene Wamalwa, Charles Keter, Dan Kazungu and Joseph Nkaissery who vowed not to stop politicking.

“We will be ministers during the day and politicians at night,” said Mr Kiunjuri.

Mr Duale said all Jubilee parties will be dissolved and no candidate will ride on President Uhuru’s popularity and get elected on another party.

“You are either with us in Jubilee Party or in Cord. There is no grey area. You cannot be in another party and claim to support President Kenyatta,” said Mr Duale.

Mr Wamalwa, who is also the former Ford Kenya leader, also said his party will dissolve and join Jubilee Party.

From February next year, we will remove he minister’s gown and go to the field to ensure President Kenyatta is re-elected.
