University’s invite to Moses Kuria draws criticism

A student organisation at the University of Nairobi, the Women Students Welfare Association (Woswa), is adamant that Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria will be one of the main speakers at a leadership training event it is planning, in spite of sharp criticism from social media users.

Woswa, through its chair Purity Kui, says the legislator has been invited as one of the leaders in the country and that the event will go on.
“While it is in order to champion empowerment, the fact that Kuria is a national leader was the main reason we invited him,” she says.

STORM ON SOCIAL MEDIA

The planned function has created a storm on social media, attracting varied reaction about the legislator.

Purity said the association is not going to succumb to pressure from Twitter users to cancel the event that is expected to take place at the University of Nairobi’s Kabete campus.

Most of those who tweeted state they cannot understand how Kuria, whom they say does not give a good leadership example, is to give a lecture on leadership to university students.

The legislator is out on a Sh5 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court on February 17 after the National Cohesion and Integration Commission last Friday withdrew from a reconciliation process between him and the Law Society of Kenya.
