Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru's planned meeting with a parliamentary committee Tuesday has been postponed.

Ms Waiguru wrote to the Finance, Trade and Planning Committee stating that she would not be able to attend the session as she had prior engagements.

The committee is expected to set another date for her to appear to answer questions by MPs over National Youth Service projects and government programmes under her docket.

The Tuesday meeting would have been the second time for Ms Waiguru to appear before a parliamentary committee. Her questioning over the affairs of the NYS was marred by heckling by MPs in the first meeting early July.

Ms Waiguru was scheduled to meet the Finance, Trade and Planning Committee to respond to queries by Bura MP Ali Wario, Majority Leader Aden Duale and Laikipia North MP Mathew Lempurkel.

Mr Wario’s question regards the construction of the Hola-Garsen road by the NYS. He claimed the rehabilitation of the road has not been done despite being allocated Sh648 million.

Mr Duale’s query is on vulnerable people in Garissa County in need of food aid. He says the group is not benefitting from relief programmes by the government and international aid agencies.

For his part, Mr Lempurkel wants to know why Laikipia North constituency is not benefiting from the World Food Programme and the government special programmes despite being a semi-arid area with over 60,000 women and children being affected by perennial food shortages.

Two other Cabinet secretaries are set to meet parliamentary committees handling issues in their dockets on Tuesday.

They are Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery and Health CS James Macharia.
