Wamalwa defends Jubilee development record

Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has criticised the opposition for misleading the public on national projects for political mileage.

He said that the opposition is misleading the public by claiming the numerous multi-billion shillings projects in the country are sponsored by international bodies.

Speaking during the distribution of 100 water pumps and 3,600 meters pipes to small scale farmers groups at Langobaya in Kilifi, he said the Jubilee government has tarmacked many roads ignored by previous governments.

“It was absurd to hear the opposition claiming that the Sh4.2 billion for tarmacking of 110 kilometers Malindi-Sala Gate road was funded by World Bank,” he said adding that the Sh5.6 billion expansion of Malindi International airport was also a government project.

Last month, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi said President Uhuru Kenyatta should stop bragging about international aid funded projects.

Mr Wamalwa said the government has developed and tarmacked roads in marginalised areas, something which was never achieved by the previous governments for the last 50 years since independence.

“Lamu had been cut off from the rest of the country but now the government is constructing roads and putting a port to connect Lamu to various parts of the country,” he said.

The CS said a road is being built to connect Lamu to Garrisa, Modegashe, Wajir and Mandera.

NUMEROUS MEGA PROJECTS

He said that the government has connected most parts of the country to the national electricity grid besides commissioning numerous megaprojects to facilitate development in the country.

“In order to ensure food security, the government set up Galana Kulalu project and commissioned the Sh2.7 Magarini-Kakuyuni-Kilifi water project to assist in irrigation and domestic water use,” he said.

The CS, who was accompanied by his Mining counterpart Dan Kazungu, National Irrigation Board General Manager Gitonga Mugambi and Coast Water Service Board chief executive Joseph Omwange, also urged Kilifi residents to register as voters and choose the next government wisely.

“Do not be tricked by empty riddles from the opposition leaders since some of them were in government as vice president, Prime Minister and cabinet secretaries but they did nothing during their time,” he said.

His sentiments were echoed by Mr Kazungu who urged residents to vote for Jubilee Party in the August General Election for development.
