MPs: We will desert party if Duale motion goes on

Leaders from north-east Kenya on Thursday threatened to withdraw their support for Jubilee Alliance Party over a censure motion against National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale.
Sources at the meeting at the Intercontinental Hotel, Nairobi said Nyeri MPs who had threatened to introduce the motion appeared to have changed their mind.
The lawmakers said they would take a collective position and submit it to the National Assembly for deliberation.
The meeting brought together 16 MPs from Nyeri and Mandera counties.
Nyeri Senator Mutahi Kagwe, said the meeting discussed security in Mandera and proposed ways of addressing them.
Others MPs at the meeting included Mr Peter Weru (Mathira), Mr Mohamed Elmi (Tarbaj), Mr Barre Shill (Fafi), Mr Kabando wa Kabando, (Mukurweini), Ms Priscilla Nyokabi (Nyeri County) and Mr Ndung’u Gethenji (Tetu).

“We made it clear that insecurity in the north-east is no different from what happened at Westgate Mall and Mpeketoni. We are dealing with people who kill their kin and fellow Muslims,” Mr Shill said.
Mandera MPs defended Mr Duale, saying locals were constantly providing names of terrorism suspects to security agencies.
