Campaign trail: Where the party leaders will be today

With 11 days to go before the end of the voter registration drive, the different leaders of political parties will today pitch tent in various parts of the country to encourage Kenyans to enlist as voters.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has already sounded a warning about what it said was voter apathy in various areas.

“After 14 days of registering voters, preliminary data shows that a total of 1,539,879 Kenyans representing 53.94% of the Week II cumulative target have applied to be registered as voters,” the IEBC said in its weekly updates.

The agency added: “This represents 25% of the upper target of 6 million voters and 38.50% of the lower limit target of 4 million voters. This means that much work still needs to be done.”

Today, political bigwigs will hit the ground running in search of the targeted six million registered voters by February 14.

RAILA ODINGA, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader

The ODM leader will today pitch tent in Marsabit County.

Mr Odinga has insisted that some areas considered as Jubilee strongholds were warming up to him and

Tomorrow, he will lead the first Nasa rally in Bomet Town to be hosted by rebellious Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto. 

WILLIAM RUTO, Deputy President and Jubilee deputy Party Leader 

The Deputy President will today be in a vote hunt in Kilifi County whose governor Amason Kingi has often rubbished the Jubilee government for what he said was hoodwinking the Coast.

Tomorrow, he will visit the neighbouring  Kwale County.

The Jubilee team has wooed the county’s governor Salim Mvurya, formerly of ODM, who will now run on the ruling party’s ticket in the August elections.

KALONZO MUSYOKA, Wiper Democratic Movement leader

The Wiper leader will today be in Nyamira County.

Mr Musyoka will lead a group of opposition leaders in a tour of Nyamira and some parts of Kisii before joining the rest of the team in Bomet for an inaugural Nasa rally in the town tomorrow.
