William Ruto defends National Youth Service hiring

Deputy President William Ruto has defended the ongoing recruitment of young people by the National Youth Service.

The DP urged the youth to shun leaders who have no interest in improving their lives.

He criticised politicians who use the youth to oppose projects being implemented by the government for the benefit of young people.

Mr Ruto said the recent chaos in Kibera, Nairobi, was orchestrated by individuals opposed to the government’s efforts to bring change.

“The youth should be given an opportunity to make their dreams valid. By joining the NYS, they can achieve their goals,” he said.

He spoke in Mariashoni, Molo Constituency, during the official launch of the Ogiek Cultural Centre.

Mr Ruto told off individuals branding him a land grabber, saying they were afraid that he will be elected President in 2022.

Ikolomani MP Benard Shinali praised the government’s efforts to develop the country.

“Some of our leaders are quick to criticise but when they are asked to help in times of crises, they don’t respond,” he said.

Elsewhere, Starehe MP Maina Kamanda defended Devolution Secretary Anne Waiguru against corruption allegations.

“Waiguru is being fought politically for initiating projects which her predecessors failed to do,” said Mr Kamanda during a prize giving function at Ngara Girls High School in Nairobi on Friday.

He criticised Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi for proposing that principals should be employed on a five-year contract.
