You are safe, DP William Ruto tells Kenyans

Deputy President William Ruto has assured Kenyans and those who want to invest in the country that they are secure.

This comes amidst heightened anxiety over planned rallies by the opposition at Nairobi’s Uhuru Park on July 7. (READ: Court bars Cord from mass action calls)

“I want to assure every Kenyan that they are safe as they conduct their business,” Mr Ruto said.

However, the Deputy President reiterated that incitement by the opposition will not deter the government from implementing its development agenda for the benefit for all Kenyans.

EMPTY RHETORIC

‘’The government will not be distracted by the noise, I want to assure you that Kenya will remain peaceful as we stay focused to deliver on our agenda to move the country forward,’’ he said.

He was speaking at Musaria Secondary School in Kericho County on Friday.

Mr Ruto, who also led a funds drive at St Francis Girls Kiptere, said that the government has no time for empty rhetoric.

“We are not going to let politics divide our people. Our commitment is to unite this country, ‘’ he said adding that the government will not succumb to provocation.

According to Mr Ruto, the Jubilee Government is focused on development projects such as the standard gauge railway and Uwezo Fund.

IGNORED PLEA

Kericho Senator Charles and his Kiambu counterpart Paul Kimani Wamatangi urged the government to be firm and ensure that the country’s security is not compromised.

The Senators chastised the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) for ignoring Kenyans' plea to call off the planned rallies.

“Raila has nothing tangible to tell Kenyans come 2017, that is why he is planting disunity in the country,’’ said Mr Wamatangi.

The Senators said if opposition leaders are true Statesmen as they claim, they should ensure peaceful co-existence of Kenyans.

Other lawmakers at the function included Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony, MPs Justice Kemei, Kipkosgei Sang, Benjamin Langat, Eric Keter, Silas Tiren and Mary Emase.
