Deputy President William Ruto commissioned construction of a road and a bridge in Kwale as he continued with his tour of the Coast region.

He assured residents that the Jubilee government is dedicated to development in the country.

In Msambweni Constituency, the Deputy President commissioned construction of a Sh70million road and Funzi Causeway.

He said the causeway will ease movement of goods and people from Funzi Island to the Milalani-Munje mainland.

“The Government has allocated funds for a road and a bridge across this area and we expect to see it make an easy access for you by December,” Mr Ruto said.

He promised the residents that the two-kilometre project will not affect fishing activities, which is one of their economic activities.

The DP also held a rally at Kingwede in Msambweni where he raised funds for Kingwede Girls High School. He called on parents to take keen interest on the education of their children.

“As a government, we have added the capitation fees by about 40 per cent so that we may have more money for running primary and secondary schools in the country. We want every child in Kenya to get an opportunity to be in school.

“We know the importance of education to the nation and that is why we have ensured electricity connection in schools across the country,” Mr Ruto said.

He said 371 schools, both primary and secondary, have been connected to the grid in Kwale County. He said the remaining 31 schools will get power within the next three months.

The Deputy President said another Sh90 million has been set aside for the construction of a technical college in Msambweni Constituency.

“We are working together with Governor Mvurya to ensure that Kwale residents get the best medical care and since he has expanded the structures at Msambweni Referral Hospital, we have pumped Sh800million worth of equipment to the facility.

You will no longer have to travel to Mombasa or Nairobi to seek ICU, MRI, among other services, for they will be available at the referral hospital,” he said.
