No agreement yet on Nasa joint nominations, says Wiper

Wiper Party has said that they have not reached an agreement on joint nominations among the four parties forming the opposition coalition, National Supper Alliance (Nasa).

Speaking to journalists in Nairobi on Thursday, party leader Kalonzo Musyoka said they are yet to reach a consensus on where and how the joint nominations will be done as talks are still ongoing to identify regions which might need such an exercise.

Mr Musyoka spoke when he received former Minister Chirau Ali Mwakwere who defected to Wiper.

He said that the Nasa National Coordinating Committee, where the party is represented by Mr Farah Maalim, National Assembly Minority leader Francis Nyenze and Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama, has been holding talks on how the coalition will have joint nominations in various regions.

“Where it is necessary for joint nominations, we shall make it clear. As for now, we have not reached a final decision,” said Mr Musyoka.

SHOCK FOR JUBILEE

Mr Musyoka took a swipe at the Jubilee Party, telling them to prepare for a shock in the August elections as the ground has shifted.

“We have green, grey and red regions in the country. Tharaka-Nithi and Meru counties are now grey areas and we are planning on how to capitalise on [that],” he said.

Mr Mwakwere denied having defected to ODM earlier.

He said he met all Nasa principals but only his meeting with Mr Raila Odinga and Governor Hassan Joho was given media attention.

“The party for the people of Kwale and the country is Wiper. I have not been forced or coerced to join this party or any other party. The decision was based on information at my disposal,” Mr Mwakwere said.

He confirmed that former MP Simeon Mkala will be his running mate in the August elections.
