Jubilee MPs have vowed to shoot down the no-confidence motion against embattled Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru.

Starehe MP Maina Kamanda said Jubilee lawmakers believe Ms Waiguru is clean and blameless.

“If we get another list from the anti-corruption commission showing us that she is guilty then we will work with it, but for now, why do you want to force the President to remove her from office?” he asked.

He was speaking Sunday at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Racecourse, Nairobi.

Mr Kamanda exuded confidence that the motion would be defeated in minutes, indicating that Jubilee MPs have mobilised their numbers to ensure that.

VOTE OF CONFIDENCE

“We know who is pushing the mover of this motion. We want it to come to Parliament on Tuesday so that we can finish with it.

“We shall pass a vote of confidence just like we did with Kaimenyi; it won’t even take an hour,” he insisted.

This is the second time that a motion to impeach the Devolution CS has been filed in the National Assembly.

In 2014, a similar attempt was made by Igembe South MP Mithika Linturi.

The MP, however, dropped it at the last minute and failed to turn up to move the motion in what he later said was a result of intervention from President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The current motion was filed by Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter, who has managed to collect at least 97 signatures.

URP lawmakers who had signed the motion have, however, been asked by Deputy President William Ruto to write to the Speaker of the National Assembly to withdraw them, to avoid "embarrassing the President in the House".

Some of the MPs have complained that the matter, though related to Ms Waiguru's integrity on matters of governance, has been turned into a contest between Jubilee and Cord.
