Campaign trail: Where party leaders will be today

What you need to know:

  • DP Ruto will today continue with his five-day tour of the Coast region with a visit to Taita Taveta.
  • Raila will today take a break from the exhausting rallies and retreat to his Orange House party office in Nairobi.
  • Tomorrow, Mr Musyoka will join his Nasa colleagues for a meeting with the Wafula Chebukati-led IEBC.

With the second and last phase of registration of voters ending on February 14, Kenya’s political bigwigs will today, like the past three weeks, be traversing the country to encourage their supporters to enlist in large numbers.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is targeting at least six million new voters when it closes the drive by Valentine’s Day.

The commission has twice said that it will not extend the deadline.

Here now is what a select list of party leaders will be doing today.

WILLIAM RUTO

The Deputy President will today continue with his five-day tour of the Coast region with a visit to Taita-Taveta.

In his tour, the DP has vowed what he said would be a ruthless crackdown on drug barons in the Coast.

He has so far addressed rallies in Kilifi, Kwale, and Mombasa.

Tomorrow, he will finish his tour at Sultan Hamud in Makueni County.

RAILA ODINGA

The ODM leader was yesterday in Kisii County where he met the party aspirants and called on supporters to register as voters.

Today, the Opposition chief will take a break from the exhausting rallies and will retreat to his Orange House party office in Nairobi.

He will chair different ODM committee meetings and reflect on their strategy to mobilise supporters to register as voters.

He is tomorrow expected to lead the National Super Alliance (Nasa) brigade to meet with the IEBC commissioners led by newly-sworn in chairman, Mr Wafula Chebukati.

KALONZO MUSYOKA

Mr Musyoka will today conclude his two-day tour of the Gusii region with a visit to Nyamira County.

In a meeting at the neighbouring Kisii County, the Wiper leader asked Mr Odinga to relinquish his presidential bid and back him (Musyoka) for the top job.

Tomorrow, Mr Musyoka will join his Nasa colleagues for a meeting with the Wafula Chebukati-led IEBC.
