What you need to know:

  • Deputy President William Ruto says he has no doubt Jubilee Party will form next government.

  • According to him, this is because competitors have no agenda and plans for Kenya.

Deputy President William Ruto on Monday claimed that Cord leaders have disagreed on who among them should be the presidential candidate.

Addressing residents of Abaganda in Garsen, Tana River, Mr Ruto said none of the three Cord principals is willing to sacrifice his presidential ambitions for the other.

“I have no doubt that the Jubilee Party will form the next government because our competitors have no agenda and plans for this country. They have even failed to decide who will be their presidential candidate” he said.

Mr Ruto said: “The Cord leader, Raila (Odinga), came and talked a lot of things, but let me tell you that this guy is just a talker. If three people cannot agree among themselves on who will be their presidential flagbearer, are they capable of leading a country of more than 40 million people?”

He asked elected leaders including Garsen Member of Parliament (MP) Halima Ware, Tana River Governor Hussein Dado and the county's Senator Ali Buleh, who were elected on Cord tickets, to defect and join Jubilee Party.

“It is high time you joined Jubilee Party, this is the winning party, Cord is still undecided,” he said.

The DP was speaking shortly after inspecting Garsen Technical Training Institute which is under construction at a cost of Sh50 million.

He said additional Sh50 million will be released end of this year or early next year for purchase of learning materials.

Mr Ruto said the institution will offer technical training skills such as plumbing and masonry as to empower local youth with the skills.

Local leaders present at the function assured the DP that the county will overwhelmingly vote for Jubilee in the coming General Election.

MPs Khatib Mwashetani, Kwale Women Representative Zainab Chidzuga, former Garsen MP Danson Mungatana and Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti accompanied the Deputy President.

He said the Jubilee government will address the concerns raised by local leaders to fast truck issuance of IDs among local youth.

He directed Tana River County Commissioner Isaiah Nakoru to ensure that the issue of IDs was addressed.
