Cord leader Raila Odinga on Saturday asked residents of Western province not to be swayed by Jubilee leaders during their political forays in the region.

Mr Odinga said the Jubilee leaders had camped in the region to entice voters to back President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto in the next General Election.

“Jubilee leaders are busy visiting churches and attending funerals each weekend in Western to try and hoodwink voters in the region to back them in 2017 and yet they have done very little to initiate development projects,” said Mr Odinga.

He said Jubilee made “empty promises” and asked the region to join other Kenyans in fighting corruption and bad governance that had driven away investors from the country.

Mr Odinga noted that corruption was chasing away investors adding that the environment was also not conducive for local investors.

He asked the Jubilee government to deal with the issue of corruption saying it is wasting a lot of resources.

“We need to change Kenya to create an enabling environment for business to thrive and attract investors,” he said.

EXPOSING EUROBOND SCANDAL

Mr Odinga stated that Nairobi businessman Jacob Juma died because of exposing the Eurobond scandal adding that the money went into people’s pockets.
He said there was need to address the issue of empowerment and employment among youth in the country.

“The youth are a resource and can be a blessing or a curse depending on how the country’s leadership handles them. If they are neglected they can turn into criminals and drug addicts but if they are empowered with proper education and skills, they become an important human resource,” said Mr Odinga.

The former Prime Minister noted that negative ethnicity was destroying the country and called on Kenyans to shun tribalism.

“Let us think of each other as Kenyans and stop propagating negative ethnicity which is destroying this country,” said Mr Odinga.

Nominated Senator Daisy Nyongesa said youth in the country lacked a platform to articulate their issues. She urged them to support Mr Odinga.
Mr Odinga said investigations into the Eurobond saga and the National Youth Service (NYS) scandal had yielded very little.

He was addressing some 4,000 youth from Kakamega, Vihiga, Busia, Bungoma and Trans-Nzoia County in Kakamega town.

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya said county governments were creating an enabling environment to tap the potential and talent of the youth in the region.

He said the Kakamega County Government had set aside Sh400 million for the first phase of an ongoing rehabilitation of Bukhungu stadium.
