New revenue allocation agency commissioners sworn in

New Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) office was sworn in on Tuesday. This follows the expiry of term of office of the Micah Cheserem-led team on December 31 last year.
The new commissioners, who were sworn in at the Supreme Court by Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu on Tuesday, will serve for a period of six years.
The eight are Dr Jane Kiringai (chairperson) and commissioners Edward Akong’o Oyugi, Humphrey Wattanga, Peter Kiko Kimuyu, Fauza Abdikadir Dahir, Kishanto ole Suuji, Irene Koech Asienga, Peter Njeru Gachuba and Treasury Principal Secretary Kamau Thugge.
Part of the commissioners’ duties include implementation of the commission’s new strategic plan as well as forging working relationships with new county governments after August General Election and national government, among others, CRA said in a press statement to Nation.co.ke.
OBEY OATH
While swearing in the new CRA officials on behalf of Chief Justice David Maraga, Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu, urged commissioners to obey the oath of office.
“The oath that you have taken today, should guide you in the discharge of your duties,” she said. “Devolution has changed Kenya. You therefore must serve Kenyan’s first and ensure devolution works”.
The CRA, whose core mandate is to recommend the basis for equitable sharing of revenues raised nationally between the national and the county governments, is a creation of the 2010 Constitution.
The commission is also charged with making recommendations on matters concerning the financing of the national and county governments.
