What you need to know:

  • Joseph Nkadayo is expected to be given a job at the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority.

  • Ntoros Baari ole Senteu is expected to be appointed at the Kenya Meat Commission.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is on Friday expected to appoint two professionals from Kajiado and Narok counties to parastatal jobs.

President Kenyatta is set to name Mr Joseph Nkadayo, the former director-general of the Kenya Urban Roads Authority, to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority.

Mr Nkadayo, who comes from Kajiado, sources said, will be named to the influential post just a little over 40 days to the elections. Also to be appointed is Mr Ntoros Baari ole Senteu, who was formerly at Ewaso Nyiro South Development Authority.

Mr Senteu, who was born in Narok and studied at Ole Sankale Primary School, is set to be given a post at the Kenya Meat Commission.

'MARGINALISED' COMMUNITY

The appointments come at a time the Raila Odingaled Opposition has said the Jubilee administration marginalised the community in land ownership, government appointments and jobs.

The two will now join what President Kenyatta last year, in a tour of Nandi, listed as jobs he had given to the Maasai community.

“You need to be closer to this government of Uhuru. This is a government that has love for the Maasai at heart. We have more than 142 State appointments from the time President Kenyatta took over,” Geothermal Development Company chief executive Johnson ole Nchoe said on behalf of the team dubbed “Maasai Professionals”.

NO MAJORITY

For President Kenyatta, the fight to gain the Maa counties of Narok, Samburu, and Kajiado is one of a man whose party although won a total of 13 out of a possible 15 MP seats in the region, still failed to get the majority of the votes for presidency in his 2013 State House race.

He beat his main challenger Raila Odinga only in Kajiado by a slim six per cent margin, getting 52 per cent of the vote.

The Head of State lost Narok (50 to 46 per cent) and Samburu (58 to 41 per cent) to Mr Odinga, although he won the governors’ seats through Samuel Tunai and Moses Lenolkulal, respectively. Both governors were allied to Deputy President William Ruto’s United Republican Party.
